August 4th, Nanaimo, Canada

The 2 Velosolutions pumptracks in Nanaimo, BC has been built in memory of Steve Smith, Canadian professional downhill mountain bike rider. The Steve Smith Bike Park consists of an advanced and a beginner pumptrack that represent 2 600 m2. Over 260 tons of asphalt has been carefully manicured one wheel barrow load at a time into a bicycle art work. There are also 3 dirt jumps lines and a mulch jump, build by Island Native Jordie Lunn, with help of Darren Berrecloth. It’s the largest skills park of it’s kind in North America. The numbers that went into the construction are staggering. Donation from the entire community, along with the Steve Smith Memorial Fund as well as the City of Nanaimo all came together to fund the construction of Stevie’s dream.
