Best of Bali talent meets Australian riders at Amplitude for a volcanic finish
Taking its cue from the thriving surfing scene of this island country, the Red Bull Pump Track World Championship moved the action on to the asphalt this weekend in the 13th qualifier on the 2019 race calendar.
Amplitude Skate and Bike Park in Kerobokan hosted yet another day of biking brilliance as the Red Bull Pump Track World Championship rolled into Indonesia. Encircling the skating bowl, this very unique Velosolutions Pump Track set the scene for what turned out to be a riveting confrontation between Indonesian and Australian riders in head-to-head format racing.
As the finals approached it was no longer just about the riders skill on the track but also their fitness and stamina. The heat, track length and neck to neck racing would put the riders through their paces.
In the male category, it came down to the wire between Jye Hombsch from Brisbane, Australia, 21-year-old BMX rider and fellow Aussie hailing from Queensland, Trystan Kronk, but it was meant to Jye’s day – “It was a long and hot day with some high-intensity racing. Those 30-second laps certainly being felt in the legs, but I can’t wait to go the World Finals!
In the women’s race, 2018 World qualifier Australian MTB rider, Danielle Beecroft remained unbeatable as she returned to successfully defend the previous year’s win in a great display of true pump track racing against 22-year-old Esther Hombsch from Brisbane.
The golden sands and lush forests of Bali beckoned us to return – and how could we not bring the best of bike back to the island of the gods? It is an idyllic setting that we hope to see on our race calendar for years to come.
